Simon Pegg - Mos Eisley Port Authority Employee of the Month
This man is freaking rad. Rad, I tell you.

Admittedly, it made them both funnier what with the repeated scenes.
Seriously. See that fence jump? The short cut through the gardens scene?

It’s in both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and thus those scenes are so. Much. Better.
REWATCH REWATCH REWATCH.
AND SOME OF YOU SUCKERS ARE GONNA WATCH IT WITH ME.
All jokes aside, Megan and I have basically ruled that he is less easy to like. Dean welcomes you in right away because he is the funny guy who has less of a dark side to wrestle with. His story/character is more straightforward and less complicated and overall much more easy for the viewer to grasp. Sam on the other hand, starts off being a lot more of an aggressive character that isn’t terribly funny, and then grows into a train wreck of abusive plot lines and pain. People don’t like him because he is a character who’s positive traits aren’t just tossed at you. He isn’t designed to be “the funny one”, “the carefree one”, or “the cool one”. He is the show’s X Factor. Conflict.
So a lot of people end up not seeing the good in him right away. Then when he makes a mistake, they sort of use it as Sam hate fuel. Personally, every argument i’ve ever heard for hating Sam can also apply to Dean, but a lot of those people don’t seem to care because Dean is still more likable, therefore his actions become automatically forgivable. Sam though? Not so much. He is the whipping boy of the series.
Seconding the above.
Also, this is probably a good time to say that, the first time I watched Supernatural, I liked Sam more than I liked Dean. I still like Sam more than I like Dean. I didn’t really “get” why my Supernatural-watching friends were all “alsdjflaksjdflaksdj Dean is mah boiiii” until I watched season 1 again and realized just how funny he is. Maybe it’s because I fell prey to Sam’s puppy face. Maybe it’s because I feel like he did when he needed to get away from his family and go to college (but did he have to go to Stanford? Boo! Hiss!). Maybe I just like the bitchy grumpy-butt characters. (See: my love for the Ninth Doctor as opposed to the Tenth.)
Of course, Sam is the more conflicted Winchester. He’s got the deeper authority issues, what with his problems with his father. He was a demon blood-sucking sonuvabitch since he was the one so utterly manipulated by Ruby. He opened the last seal on the Cage and started the Apocalypse. He’s Lucifer’s destined Vessel. He had to wander around for more than a year without his soul, and that was still not as bad as having to live months without his brother.
But you know what? He’s still Sam Winchester. He hunts things and saves people. He saved the world. And if Dean can still love him so much after everything, why can’t we?
